Puerto Rico 2025
A Team Sent with Purpose
We set off as a team of six—three couples from Gospel Hope Church—with a simple but meaningful goal: to partner with our church planter in Puerto Rico and help advance the light of Christ on the island. The week that followed was encouraging, beautiful, and full of joy.
Serving at the Orphanage
Our trip began at an orphanage and Send Relief Center in San Antonio. We spent time playing with the children being cared for there and also helped complete a work project for the facility. We left deeply encouraged by the love of Christ being poured into every child who walks through those doors. It was clear the staff served with genuine compassion. For them, this was far more than a job—it was an offering of worship to the Lord.
Ministry in Aguadilla
From there we traveled to the far northwest corner of the island, where our church planters, Ben and Maria Canfield, live in Aguadilla. The primary focus of our week was helping run a soccer camp for local kids. Ben and Maria have discovered that sports camps are a meaningful way to serve the community, share the gospel, and build relationships with new families.
Soccer Camp Impact
Throughout the week, around 30 kids participated in the camp. We had an incredible time teaching soccer skills, laughing together, and getting to know each child. At the end of every day, we shared a lesson about Jesus. On the final day, families were invited to watch their kids play. Many came, and we were able to begin building relationships and have meaningful conversations. The kids had an absolute blast—and already asking when the next camp would be.
A Church Taking Root
The Canfields have now been on the field for about a year and a half, and the Lord is clearly at work. A growing group is already gathering for Sunday morning worship and Wednesday night prayer in their home. It was a joy to participate in these times together.
Children Leading in Worship
One of the most encouraging moments of the week was watching the children actively involved in worship. They weren’t just observers—they were participants. From setting up chairs to playing instruments, they served with eagerness. During Wednesday night prayer and praise, the children prayed and sang right alongside the adults. It was a beautiful picture of a church family growing together.
A Fresh Reminder
This week reminded us again of the special place children hold in the heart of God:“Let the little children come to me", "Care for the orphans and widows",“Faith like a child.”
We left Puerto Rico grateful for what the Lord is doing and expectant for what He will continue to build in Aguadilla.
